A love parallelogram

May 2nd, 2008 by Caryn

This whole Juliet-Jack-Kate-Sawyer love knot is really getting to me. I didn’t really enjoy the episode as a whole because of it–I guess I’m just a sucker for action!!

Whoa moments:

-Jack collapses…the doctor’s sick!
-Jack DOES hook up with Kate (Oceanic 6)
-Miles ‘hears’ Karl and Rousseau–sadly, they really are dead (I was hoping for a miracle…sigh)
-Jack has appendicitis?
-Sawyer is now playing hero and protector. haha
-Christian Shepard … he’s baaaaack!
-Charlie sends a message to Jack: ‘You’re not supposed to raise him’
-Sun’s pregnancy is showing! Cute =)
-Jack PROPOSES!! Awwww
-Jin calls out Charlotte…how many languages does this woman know?
-Juliet has to knock Jack out, evicts Kate…could be trouble later
-Jack’s visitor: CHRISTIAN SHEPARD!
-Meds + alcohol? Jack’s losing it
-CONFIRMED: Christian Shepard IS Claire’s father (making her Jack’s sister)
-Juliet bows out of the love story–very cleverly, i thought
-Kate’s out late…doing ’something for Sawyer’??!! I want to know what!!
-DRAMA Jack n Kate
-WHOA: Claire is gone. She actually left Aaron behind. YIKES

Quotables

“You got a restraining order: 20 ft.” -Sawyer to Miles
“I would have followed her, but I have a restraining order.” -Miles to Sawyer
Jin’s entire dialogue in Korean with Charlotte

Lost in Hawaii Locations:

Beach Camp - Papailoa Beach, North Shore
Mental Hospital - Windward Community College
Jungle - Heeia Kea, random places on-island

Yes - not much action but it was gut wrenching to see bonds made and broken. Claire’s dad actually picking up Aaron was a big deal. He is not a ghost or manifestation but a real entity. Also, anytime there is a scene where a 4 year old kid finds out that his mom is not his mom, you know they are really going for the knock out punch.

    Lost Easter Eggs
This episode was alright…not as good as the previous ones. Answered a few questions, like Rousseau really being dead and Sawyer is still alive on the island, supposedly. Whoa moment for me: Hurley giving the message to Jack from Charlie. What does it mean….”You’re not supposed to raise him.”? Who is, Kate? And what the heck happened to Claire? See….everyone was expecting her to just die, nobody expected her to pull a “Jedi Disappearing” act and “Harry Potter” Aaron to Sawyer.
I think my favorite quote was that restraining order quote that Sawyer gave to Miles. Does Jack know he’s related to Aaron yet? I was waiting for him to say something, but that never happened.

I know this might be getting ahead to the next episode, but this whole thing about seeing dead people being alive is interesting. I started feeling like Hurley, when he commented that they are all dead, because he can see Charley. But Jack says they are not dead, because you see Aaron getting older (and Sun giving birth.) So odd. So, in the future, we see Hurley and Jack loosing it. Does anybody else go crazy, and going back to the island cures it? And it looks like some people choose to stay on the island, like Sawyer. The island is mysterious.

    Boring…

    Bring back the Ben episodes.

Charlotte speaks better Korean than Jin.

Saywer, Claire, Aaron, and Miles hide in the bushes and can’t be seen from 4 feet away?

Miles reminds me of the dad on “Jon and Kate plus 8″.

jack and kate sitting in a tree… K.I.S.S.I.N.G….
that was alot of kissing. must’ve been hard to film those scenes. heh.

why the heck does dino-girl know korean?

and how did smokey not kill the renegades? they sure sounded like they were getting beat up in the bushes behind camp erdman.

good point by rose as to why jack’s getting sick when everyone else gets healed. anyone remember if rose knows if locke got his legs back? that would really help her solidify her beliefs.

kinda figured about jack’s dad visiting him. didn’t think he’d visit claire too. is hurley really going nuts?

ok, will think of more later.

Chadepp–Claire is supposed to raise Aaron. Obviously, she isn’t in the “future.” But Charlie’s message might imply that Claire will be alive, indeed, perhaps having chosen to stay on the island as did Sawyer.

I’m assuming the flash forwards in this episode occur before the flash forwards that happened in the last episode of season 3. Jack seems happy and free of serious alcohol-and-drug problems at this point, but we know he’s depressed and has drug problems at some point (and wants to return to the island).

We’re supposed to find out by the end of the season who is in the coffin. My bet is that it is Michael, who the survivors will eventually know (some already do) is on the freighter. I don’t know whether everyone will realize that Michael is Ben’s spy, or for that matter whether the survivors will decide that is a good or a bad thing.

    Couple of thoughts…

Why’s Jack sick? I don’t think he is. I think that there was something inside his gut put there previously (most likely right after the crash maybe through the back wound that Kate sewed up). I think Juliet knows about it. Juliet was really insistent about Jack not watching the surgery, she shaved 2″ higher than needed and the telling line after the surgery: “I put everything back where it belonged.” There’s some online controversy about whether or not Jack had a scar, there may even be some touched up photos circulating. I DVR’d the non-HD version…anyone get a clear shot of this?

The newspaper the headline “Yankees Bludgeon Red Sox” is interesting. I don’t know if this is an actual newspaper title, but if was made for the purposes of the show, Bludgeon is STRONG word and Rose calls Charlotte, “Red.” Hmmm….I’m probably looking too much into this.

When Jack says that Sawyer “chose to stay,” I think he was referring to the time when Sawyer chose to follow Locke when Locke split the camp, and does not necessarily refer to a later point when the losties are given a choice to stay or go (as some seem to think).

Since I choose to believe this show is more sci-fi and less ghost-story, it’s tough for me to buy into the walking dead theory or the ghost-whispering skills of Miles. I think Miles’s “gift” an ability to sense thoughts either through time or from concurrent dimensions (ie. multi-verse theory).

The hints in scenes seemed so overtly done in this episode that I wasn’t sure if the clues were meant to mislead the fans. Like the low battery signal from the smoke alarm before Christian shows up at the Jack’s hospital, or the artwork in Kate’s house.
