Thugs and jungles and ghosts, oh my!
May 8th, 2008 by CarynThat was pretty much THE creepiest Lost episode since Season One. Dead people all over the place! I really enjoyed the glimpse that we got into Locke’s childhood, however–I got the feeling that he is ’special’ in much the same way that Walt is. All I know is that the ageless, mascara-wearing Richard Alpert (ok, maybe he just has long, dark lashes) is really starting to give me the heebie jeebies. Ditto Matthew Abbadon.
I think the two people that intrigued me the most this week were Emily–who is really Locke’s father? Jacob? also, why did she give him up?–and Claire. I really think she must have died when the freighter fighters blew up her cabin. I also loved every part of Ben’s dialogue. Bad guy or not, the guy is hilarious!
Whoa moments:
-Another episode beginning with a record playing–who is Emily so in love with (that is twice her age?)
-Emily hit by a car? Who is she? Pregnant?! How is the baby healthy at 6 months? HIS NAME IS JOHN
-John Locke is a love child.
-Helicopter returns…Sayid is short!
-Michael gets caught–and is actually quite brave about admitting to being Ben’s mole
-Locke meets a Dharma ghost-Horace-who KNOWS that he is dead
-Why doesn’t Emily want to hold her baby? What’s up with that?!
-RICHARD ALPERT visits Locke as an infant–and he hasn’t aged a moment since then
-Backgammon for John ever since he was a child–Richard AGAIN.
-Locke DREW THE SMOKE MONSTER as a child
-Is walk another ’special child’ like Walt?
-Why was his choice of the knife ‘wrong’? And so upsetting to Richard?
-Horace had the blueprints to the cabin in his shirt pocket
-How does Widmore have knowlege of ‘what Ben will do?’ Sounds like we’re touching on more time-travel stuff
-The freighter captain has become an unexpected ally
-Poor thing!! Locke got locked in a locker (I kill myself sometimes)
-Alpert tries to recruit Locke again when he’s in high school –what is so special about him?
-Ben doesn’t like being the chosen one?
-ABBADON helped John with his rehab?!! And ABBADON sent him on his walkabout?!
-Frank is defiant, and the doctor and freighter captain die. At least now we know how the doc ended up on the beach last week.
-NO NOT THE HELICOPTER!! RUUUUN EVERYONE!! Do NOT follow.
-Ben hands over the reins to Locke–why?
-Ok I am SO creeped out by the cabin right now–why is the lantern letting off NO light?
-CHRISTIAN again!!! How did HE become the new spokesperson for Jacob?
-CLAIRE!! AHHH! She looks…smug. She has to be dead-maybe she actually died when her house exploded. !!
-Weird look btwn Claire and Christian. What’s going on?
-Ben and Hurley bond over food. HAHA
-MOVE the island?!! I sure hope Ben knows how…
Quotables
Ben: “I used to have dreams”
Hurley, nodding at the Dharma grave: “What happened to them?” Locke, nodding at Ben: “He did”
Locke’s teacher: ‘You can’t be a superhero.”
Ben: “Destiny, John, is a fickle b!&#$”
Locke: “How do I save the island?”
Lost in Hawaii locations:
The usual–beach camp, jungle, etc.
What high school did Locke go to? Castle? (I only guess this because of the ‘Knights’ banner hanging behind his head, haha)
Anyone else recognize someplace?
Guess I’m going to have to sleep with the lights on tonight…

It looks like Michael can’t get killed for some reason. Was the gun really jammed? I just kept thinking of “the island won’t let you.” But the island let Ben get sick. That’s weird, so the island decides when someone will get sick and if someone dies?
And where’s Vincent the dog anyway? He hasn’t been seen on the beach lately.
Smart move by Desmond to stay on the boat. I wouldn’t want to go back to the island either if I was there 3 years.

What is kind of puzzling is that Locke met Richard last year and didn’t act like he knew him from before.
Also, I don’t know if Claire is “dead”. Don’t know what is going on there but I think that She might be under a spell or something. She is definitely more interesting though.
Locke meeting Abbadon was ceepy. I hope he will start playing a larger role in the show.
Also, the scene between Hurley and Ben sharing the candy bar was truly inspired. It was touching and funny in a silent movie kind of way…

Are Locke and Ben brothers?

Another good episode. Time travel/distortion really seems to be playing a bigger role. Now I’m wondering if Richard Alpert is time travelling and not ageless.
Claire being dead would make an interesting twist. I think she’s compliant now because she’s with her dad (Christian) who most likely convinced her that Aaron is safe (and will be safe off of the island)
Interesting note (that I read somewhere): the opening sequence of Emily took place in 1956…one year before the song “Everyday” was released.

“He wants me to move the island” Hmm….there are at least two ways to mis-interpret this (assuming one is correct):
Does this mean to move the entire island to somewhere else, as in teleport? Or, does it mean to move the island vigorously, as in earthquake? Or, since the island is a quasi-entity…does it mean to move the island emotionally, as in to pursuade it?
Who wins in a deathmatch: Michael or Smokie? If the island didn’t want Regina (chick who drowned herself) to die, she’s pretty bored right now.

jojo: I totally didn’t realize that the reason Keamy’s gun wouldn’t fire is because Michael can’t die yet!! It’s probably the reason that Michael was bold enough to admit he is Ben’s mole/saboteur.
HOP: The candy bar scene was def one of my favorites–and I also had the same thought about Alpert. How can Locke not remember him? I guess he was only a small child the last time they met…kinda fishy, though.
JNL: I don’t know if Locke and Ben are brothers, but they do have some weird life parallels–both had mothers named Emily who did not raise them, and both have been ‘chosen’ by the island. The difference between them, as illustrated in this episode, however, is when Ben congratulates John for manipulating Hurley into staying with them–and Locke basically says, I’m not like you.
Kyle: I had the same thought about Alpert being a time traveler–only thing is, where in time is he actually from?
ErgoIAM: What about moving the island in TIME?

haha, locke got locked in a locker.
you are funny!
two times michael had a gun in his face and two times it didn’t go off. two, i mean, too much drama!
i found the candy bar moment reminiscent like the scene in Goonies where Chunk befriends Sloth with his Baby Ruth!!!!
also, interesting to see Alpert and Abaddon fighting over Locke.
another friend brought up the point about the Dalai lama and how during the search for the new one, they are asked to choose an item. i think alpert was shocked that boy Locke chose the right item and had to rush off. maybe to call the island and tell them.
and what was the mp3 player that keamy had on his bicep? some sort of pedometer? gps? and wow, they really pack a punch with their weaponry. but why would you need all the guns if you were gonna torch the island? i don’t see any napalm or nuke bomb.
whats with jack? does he really want to get off the island that bad that he’s gonna lead the beachies to their doom? didn’t science boy tell them that they weren’t there to save them? looks like another Showdown in the Jungle Corral standoff next week. everyone pointing guns at everyone else. too bad “happy” mr. friendly wasn’t still alive. he was good at those.
how is christian shephard “jacob”. unless jacob needed a human form, so he “chose” to use the body that fell out of the coffin to communicate with everyone because of the connections with many of the characters. and how is moving the island gonna save everyone? they still gotta get rid of keamy. or is the island more important than the residents, and “jacob” is protecting only the island.
will sayid succeed in getting to the island in time? it seems like if you follow the correct heading, you stay in sync with current time, but if you stray off like floating dead doc, you end up going Back in Time? (cue back to the future music).
ok. head hurts. enough for now.

I think there will be a big gun battle and sayid will make it to the island. Maybe Hurly should have gone off on his own. Glad that desmond stayed on the boat.

Moving the island implies to get it to its original state when the dharma initiative was successful in hiding its whereabouts. Note that when traveling to an from the island a certain distince bearing must be used. I am assuming the there is some gizmo on the island that can alter the required bearings prevent anyone from finding it.
As for Michael I do believe that he serves a purpose and cannot die at this point (gun jammed). The island needs Michael to prevail. Ben made it clear that Locke should go into to the cabin alone and is now the chosen one since the island made Locke healthy while it made Ben sick (with the tumor). Also note the the island made Jack sick as Jack’s choices are not suited for the islands survival. Look how he made the assumption that Lapidus wants them to follow the helicopter.

Locke and Ben may very well be brothers (or half brothers). Caryn pointed out their similarities. Emily had the very same reaction when both were born…”name him John/Benjamin.”

At first I thought Claire was dead, and died in the explosion, but now I’m starting to lean toward the island is protecting her somehow. It’s as though she is under a spell or something similar. Remember when Desmond told Charlie he saw Claire getting on a helicopter in one of his visions of the future? Well, I think that will still come to pass, maybe in the very last episode of the series.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
yeah i dont think that claire is dead either…i dont think sawyer wouldve been able to see her if she were dead…not everyone is able to see dead ppl, and it seems those that do, are able to do so for a specific reason. what would be sawyers? or even hurleys for that matter? something fishy is going on, but dead she is not.
also i agree that when young locke chose the knife it was the right item, and richard went off hastily to warn/tell the others. from the looks of the episode it seems as if richard wants to keep locke off the island while abbadon wants him to find the island…interesting. i seriously thought that he was gonna push locke down the stairs! haha
lastly i dont know if anyone remembers but horace godspeed was the guy that came to the roadside when ben’s mother gave birth and died and ultimately invited ben and his father to the island/ dharma initiative. namaste!!!

i thnk maybe locke is the reincarnation of someone very important or dangerous to the island…
May 12th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Ok, maybe she’s under a spell, not dead. I just needed some explanation as to why she’s acting so strangely! I was almost as creeped out by her weird smile and the knowing glances she exchanged with Christian as I was by Abbaddon! (and yes, I really thought he was going to push Locke down the stairs, too. haha)
Locke as a reincarnation? I’m going to have to think about that one…interesting!
May 13th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
true claire is acting super sketchy though…i dont think the “normal” claire would just up and leave aaron in the middle of the jungle…cant wait to see whats going on.

I wonder if when Ben was a boy he was given the same choice of objects to choose from and perhaps he (conniving as he is) chose something he wanted and not what he felt was already his and this led Richard to believe that he was the “chosen one” when it was actually John. I’m thinking that if Richard began to suspect that Ben wasn’t really the one they were looking for, he might have went back in time and tested John. Maybe John answered correctly and that was what angered Richard that they were following Ben and he was the wrong one all along.
I have also wondered though if perhaps there are several special boys/men with different powers or abilities and perhaps each object represents one of them. It seems that Ben, John, and
Walt are all special to the island in some way. Also maybe
Aaron is some kind of prodigy as well which is why he was destined to come to the island.
May 18th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
…also it could be that both John and Ben chose what they wanted to have ( or wanted to be) instead of what or who they already were and that is why NOW John is really Jacobs chosen one. John wanted
to be a hero not the science geek, so he chose the knife, not because it belonged to him but that was the person he wanted to be. And if Ben was given the same option and he chose what really belonged to John he was kind of an imposter on the island.

Nice website!!
