Lost marathon on SciFi, filming again soon

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Been missing Lost (and, uh, my postings on this blog…riiiight)? WELL, if you want a marathon, the Sci Fi channel will be airing four episodes of Season 4 every Monday starting September 15th. Cool! It’ll be especially valuable if the reruns are the ones with pop-up factoids, etc that showed before new episodes this past season.

Word is also out that filming/production is slated to begin again within the next couple of weeks. This means that if you see filming in progress, let us all know here on the the blog! Better yet, take a few pictures and email them to me so I can post them. It’s always fun seeing the places we visit every day here transformed on primetime television.

Some other news: sources say that we can expect 2 new characters this season. As if we don’t already have enough characters, right? They do sound interesting, though, so I don’t mind–as long as they live up to their hype…

Last thing: I got another email from Octagon Global Recruiting. I am no internet whiz, and the link they originally sent led to an ‘error’ page that was just beyond me. HOWEVER, I thought I’d try the link again to put it on this post, and viola! we have a real site now…a pretty cool one, too. ;) After the intro, if you click ‘new recruit’, you are prompted to take a sometimes-amusing, sometimes-creepy ‘Eligibility Test’.

I ‘passed’. Anyone else try it and ‘fail’?

Shell-shocked

Do NOT read on if you have yet to see the finale–it’s worth watching EVERY ‘whoa’ moment unspoiled!

Honestly? My list of ‘whoa’ moments is about 2 miles long, or roughly one ‘whoa’ moment for every other moment of the entire 2 hours of tonight’s finale. Not to mention that ‘whoa’ just doesn’t cut it. It should really be ‘WHOA!!’

(btw, in case you were wondering, the Kahuku graduation was awesome. :) Congrats to my brother, Evan, for a job well done. How was the party? Inquiring minds–ok, just mine–would like to know.)

Anyway, the point is that I’m not even going to attempt to write out an entire list of ‘whoa’ moments for this episode. Instead, I think a list of the most interesting things we’re going to deal with next season will give us more to chew on:

-The return of Walt. Does he have to go back to the island with all of them, too?
-Was the island moved in TIME, SPACE, or BOTH? And more importantly, where is it now?
-Ben: good guy or bad guy? He ‘always has a plan,’ and yet still lost it (or did he?) when he killed Keamy and sentenced all the freighter folk–not to mention Jin (NOOO!) and Michael–to death by C4. And then immediately chooses to banish himself from the island forever. What?!
-Where WAS Charlotte born, and why are she and Miles so eager to remain on that island?
-Sawyer finally has his true hero moment when he jumps out of the chopper. What role will he play on the newly relocated island (wherever/whenever it is)?
-What about Desmond and Lapidus? Do they, too, have to return with the Oceanic 6 + Locke’s cadaver?
-We still need to learn more about Widmore. And Sun’s ruthless new game to seek vengeance for Jin’s death.
-What ever happened to Faraday and his 5 zodiac passengers?
-Why does Claire ask Kate NOT to bring Aaron back to the island?
-And my final question: WHY DID LOCKE LEAVE THE ISLAND?

For me, it was a night of ‘hero’ moments. Not only do the major characters sacrifice themselves in big ways–Sawyer, Sayid (how AWESOME was his fight with Keamy?), Jack, Kate, Ben, Jin, Michael–but the less-dominant forces in the finale really saved the day. Faraday and Juliet saved the beach folk, Lapidus came through for the Oceanic 6, the Others took out Keamy’s team, and Penny followed Desmond’s signal. If it wasn’t 1 a.m., I would cheer that those two are finally reunited!

Here’s my take: the show’s ‘present’ has finally connected with the future. This means that next season, we are going to have to go into a new mode of storytelling. I’m not sure how it’ll play out, but the old method of flashforwards and flashbacks just isn’t going to cut it anymore. Not to mention, we are going to HAVE to find out where and when that island went! What do you think? Time to digest and theorize!

All I know is that we’ve come a long way since season 1, when the Losties fell out of the sky. 2 more seasons to go!

Season 4 Finale part 1 (of 3!)

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I thought it was weird that they’d plan 2 different days to air a single, THREE HOUR season finale. I remember when shows were only half an hour, and you’d be really excited to get a whole entire hour for the finale–this is just getting out of hand! But I’m not complaining. There are so many threads to follow this season, it makes complete sense to take an entire hour just to put all of the pieces in place. What’d you think?

Whoa moments

-Kate’s mom didn’t come to the reunion =(
-They’re headed to the Orchid–finally, we get to learn more about this mysterious station!
-Faraday knows about the Orchid? How?
-It’s Sawyer and Miles
-Kate takes Aaron from Sawyer–a foreshadowing of things to come?
-The island is named ‘Membata’
-Press conference: rough crowd! All journalists aren’t like that, I promise. =)
-NADIA!! The best reunion of them all…yay!
-Sun buys out her father! Talk about the ultimate payback; maybe Jin DID die, after all…
-Hurley’s new car–THE NUMBERS!! And a rabbit’s foot as the keychain
-The Orchid can move the island?
-None of the first raft group except Sun and Aaron make it off the island. What happens to them?
-Christian’s funeral: CLAIRE’S MOTHER shows up. Jack finds out that he’s Claire’s brother…and that Aaron is his nephew
-The freighter is loaded with C4!!
-Richard Alpert and the Others catch Kate and Sayid. Why?
-So many cliff-hangers…SO not enough time!!

Quotables:

“We are in shock, Jack” -Sun
“Don’t bleed to death, Jack” -Juliet
How to move the island? “Very carefully” - Ben
“Jesus Christ is not a weapon” -Hurley’s mom
“How many times do i have to tell you, John? I always have a plan.” - Ben

Lost in Hawaii locations:

HONOLULU AIRPORT!!
Where is the hangar of the press conference?
First Hawaiian Tower - Paik industries staircase
Hurley’s mansion - Kahala?
Christian’s funeral - which chapel?

There will be a break next week, and then a 2 hour final offering on the 29th. The suspense is already killing me…

Thugs and jungles and ghosts, oh my!

That was pretty much THE creepiest Lost episode since Season One. Dead people all over the place! I really enjoyed the glimpse that we got into Locke’s childhood, however–I got the feeling that he is ’special’ in much the same way that Walt is. All I know is that the ageless, mascara-wearing Richard Alpert (ok, maybe he just has long, dark lashes) is really starting to give me the heebie jeebies. Ditto Matthew Abbadon.

I think the two people that intrigued me the most this week were Emily–who is really Locke’s father? Jacob? also, why did she give him up?–and Claire. I really think she must have died when the freighter fighters blew up her cabin. I also loved every part of Ben’s dialogue. Bad guy or not, the guy is hilarious!

Whoa moments:
-Another episode beginning with a record playing–who is Emily so in love with (that is twice her age?)
-Emily hit by a car? Who is she? Pregnant?! How is the baby healthy at 6 months? HIS NAME IS JOHN
-John Locke is a love child.
-Helicopter returns…Sayid is short!
-Michael gets caught–and is actually quite brave about admitting to being Ben’s mole
-Locke meets a Dharma ghost-Horace-who KNOWS that he is dead
-Why doesn’t Emily want to hold her baby? What’s up with that?!
-RICHARD ALPERT visits Locke as an infant–and he hasn’t aged a moment since then
-Backgammon for John ever since he was a child–Richard AGAIN.
-Locke DREW THE SMOKE MONSTER as a child
-Is walk another ’special child’ like Walt?
-Why was his choice of the knife ‘wrong’? And so upsetting to Richard?
-Horace had the blueprints to the cabin in his shirt pocket
-How does Widmore have knowlege of ‘what Ben will do?’ Sounds like we’re touching on more time-travel stuff
-The freighter captain has become an unexpected ally
-Poor thing!! Locke got locked in a locker (I kill myself sometimes)
-Alpert tries to recruit Locke again when he’s in high school –what is so special about him?
-Ben doesn’t like being the chosen one?
-ABBADON helped John with his rehab?!! And ABBADON sent him on his walkabout?!
-Frank is defiant, and the doctor and freighter captain die. At least now we know how the doc ended up on the beach last week.
-NO NOT THE HELICOPTER!! RUUUUN EVERYONE!! Do NOT follow.
-Ben hands over the reins to Locke–why?
-Ok I am SO creeped out by the cabin right now–why is the lantern letting off NO light?
-CHRISTIAN again!!! How did HE become the new spokesperson for Jacob?
-CLAIRE!! AHHH! She looks…smug. She has to be dead-maybe she actually died when her house exploded. !!
-Weird look btwn Claire and Christian. What’s going on?
-Ben and Hurley bond over food. HAHA
-MOVE the island?!! I sure hope Ben knows how…

Quotables
Ben: “I used to have dreams”
Hurley, nodding at the Dharma grave: “What happened to them?” Locke, nodding at Ben: “He did”
Locke’s teacher: ‘You can’t be a superhero.”
Ben: “Destiny, John, is a fickle b!&#$”
Locke: “How do I save the island?”

Lost in Hawaii locations:
The usual–beach camp, jungle, etc.
What high school did Locke go to? Castle? (I only guess this because of the ‘Knights’ banner hanging behind his head, haha)
Anyone else recognize someplace?

Guess I’m going to have to sleep with the lights on tonight…

I’d be Lost without you, Mom

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Things have been crazy for me lately–once again, I didn’t get a chance to watch last week’s episode until almost midnight. This week, I WILL be watching ‘Cabin Fever’ as it airs. That’s final!

The Doc’s analysis for Jack’s epi last week was insightful, as usual (I don’t know if you like these or not, but as an English degree-holder, I appreciate his literary insights and references to the show).

Anyway, as Mother’s Day is fast approaching, I thought I’d point you in the direction of abc.com’s latest batch of e-cards (remember the Lost valentine’s day set?). There’s one of Claire leaning over Aaron in the ‘New Moms’ category: “I’d be Lost without you, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day!” Absolutely perfect for the Lost fan/mother in your life. If your mom doesn’t watch Lost, I don’t know what to tell you…buy her some flowers? =)

And here’s an early Mother’s Day shout-out to MY mom, who watches Lost every week. Her theory on last week’s episode? Jack got appendicitis because he lacks faith. Personally, I think it’s because he’s not listening to the island–so the island took away his health (much in the same way it ‘allowed’ Ben to contract a tumor). Any other ideas?
